At Noble & Cooley, every drum is built to order, just as it has always been—by hand, in our factory in Granville, Massachusetts.
We are a boutique drum company dedicated to bringing each drummer’s vision to life in both sound and appearance. Our guiding principle is simple: Sound Above All Else. Every decision we make is rooted in producing the best possible tone, with the belief that if a drum sounds exceptional, it should look just as exceptional.
Because each instrument is made individually, pricing can vary. This is not a reflection of quality, but of the materials and time required to build each piece. Our solid shell drums begin with locally sourced wood, which is milled, shaped, and then carefully steam-bent and dried—a process that can take several months depending on the species. Bearing edges are hand-cut and refined on a micro-flat surface to extremely precise tolerances. Finishes are equally hands-on: oiled drums are hand-rubbed to bring out the natural character of the grain, while sparkle finishes are built up in multiple layers with sanding between coats to ensure a flawless surface.
Our approach is intentionally the opposite of mass production. We value craftsmanship, time, and attention to detail over volume and speed. There are many great options in the market for mass-produced drums—we simply choose a different path.
We believe in building instruments that players are proud to own: unique, personal, and capable of supporting any type of musical expression for years to come.
While we offer standardized product lines, almost every aspect of a drum can be customized. We’re always open to ideas and special requests, as long as they serve the goal of creating a great-sounding and great-looking instrument. If you can imagine it, we’re willing to explore it with you.
