Ryan plays a variety of styles, such as funk, jazz fusion, progressive rock, Christain pop, country, and metal, and is influenced by a huge variety of drummers. Ryan currently instructs students weekly and plays with underground band Against 72 as well as the Jason Tompkins Band, both bands reside in Oklahoma. Since his band Against 72 formed in 2001 the group has reached a variety of accomplishments, including radio play, interviews, a self titled debut recording in 2005, and have played with bands such as 12 Gauge Valentine, Mortal Treason, and War of Ages. Against 72 is a heavy hitting metal band that continues to push forward toward success in the music industry and are currently looking forward to recording a new album in 2007-2008. The band continues to perform in various venues throughout the country.
The Jason Tompkins Band has also garnered its share of radio play, interviews, and has played with such acts as Switchfoot, Mercy Me, and Charlie Hall. Annually the Jason Tompkins Band plays for the military and performs for up to 40,000 soldiers from all over the world. They released their "Unbreakable" album in 2004 and recently released a live album "Live at Ft.Sill" in 2007 and continue to perfom in various venues around the country as well.
